Millie Bobby Brown was thrown into the spotlight after her incredible performance in the Netflix series 'Stranger Things,' garnering a lot of fans, a lot of headlines, but a lot of haters as well.

Last year's scandal revolved around her seemingly age-inappropriate friendship with Drake, which the 14-year-old actress defended vehemently. Now people are keeping a trained eye on the young star, going so far as to criticize what she's wearing in her latest Instagram post.

Dressed in a skintight snakeskin dress and heels, several media critics told Brown to "act her age," criticizing an outfit that made her feel confident and beautiful by sexualizing it.

One person wrote that she looks like she's playing in her mother's clothes, and others warned her not to try to grow up so fast. Other commentators went to disturbing lengths even to defend her, still sexualizing her body and all women's clothing choices in the process: "It’s a very conservative dress so I don’t see anything wrong with her wanting to wear it. It has a lot more material/coverage then 3/4 of the dresses out there. 0 cleavage and the dress goes down to her [calves]," one male user wrote.

In a now-deleted Instagram Story, according to Page Six, Brown responded to the wave of unsolicited advice: “[I know] everyone on my last pic wants me to ‘act my age’ but quite frankly its my instagram and if I choose to post that picture and you don’t like it … scroll past it.”

She later added a quote: “If we could spread love as quickly as we spread hate and negativity, what an amazing world we would live in.”

Luckily, many of her fans are coming to her defense, such as one user who wrote, “How about you all act YOUR age and stop bullying a 14 year old child.” Another user asked why it was okay to expect her to be an ambassador for UNICEF and take on huge responsibilities but at the same time reprimand her for dressing like a strong, confident woman.

Perhaps the root of the problem lies in the fact that anything a female chooses to wear is automatically ranked according to sex appeal.
