HEALTH Nightmares

If you watched the horror movie  'Hereditary', just before sleeping, don't be surprised if you are being chased by demons during your sleep. Our everyday experiences usually interfere with our dreams.

Research shows that 50% of people sometimes have bad dreams. Women tend to experience this more often. If you suffer nightmares more often, these factors might be the cause:

Mental problems
If you go to sleep with negative thoughts, they might stay active during your sleep. Stress, unsolved conflicts and big life changes are a common cause for nightmares.

Personal character
Research has shown that sensitive people, more often experience nightmares. Same as for artistic people that have a great creative interest.

Trauma
Nightmares are a common symptom for post-traumatic stress disorders. Usually, these nightmares are recurrent. If this is the case, it´s advised to see a doctor cause it can lead to insomnia.

Food
Have you been snacking before sleep? It's not only bad for digestion it can also cause you nightmares. Eating increases your metabolism, which makes your body temperature rise and activates the brain.

Alcohol
Alcohol can cause restless nights. Not only will you wake up more often, but it is also more likely that people start talking during their sleep and even sleepwalk.

Sweet dreams.
