Egerton Ryerson fought for free education, secularism, and founded some of the early post-secondary institutions in Canada, though not Ryerson University, which is named after him. Ryerson was an architect of the residential school system in Canada that divided indigenous families and ruined countless of lives. He was also an opponent of the oligarchy that ran Ontario.
