When most people appeared to be praising ‘The Shape of Water’ for its Best Picture and Best Director wins, Canadian pop star Ria Mae was trashing the movie, which was shot in Ontario and involved the work of many Canadians.
“I was on a plane a few days ago and watched what I assumed to be a very old movie called The Shape of Water. Good thing I didn’t tweet how bad I thought it was. Just heard it won Best Picture. That [would’ve] been so embarrassing for me,” tweeted Mae.

Mae was quick to be self-critical though, somewhat backtracking on her words.
“I’ve only seen like 8 movies though. What do I know[?]” she tweeted next.

Could the fact that she watched the film on a plane as opposed to the big screen be the real problem? Mae’s willing to admit that could be the case.
Maybe that was it! I’m def confused and blaming myself. ????

Most of the comments on her tweet, however, were of fans agreeing with Mae’s assessment of the movie.
I agree - I don't get the hype
