CELEBRITY Notting hill

The 1999 British film 'Notting Hill' starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts is an undisputed classic. From laugh-out-loud comedy to swoon-worthy romance, the film has been watched and re-watched for years. However, it turns out underneath the makeup and star power, the set of 'Notting Hill' was anything but charming.

Emily Mortimer who plays Hugh Grant's short-lived love interest when he is trying to get over his breakup from Julia Roberts' character opened up about the "weird vibe" on set.

In an interview with PeopleTV, Mortimer revealed that just before filming, she suffered from an allergic reaction. The actor took steroids to combat her hives but explained “it was a nightmare” shooting her scene.

“Every time I got nervous — which you do when you’re acting — I got hives and my face (became swollen), well, one side of it you can still see is sort of chipmunk-like,” Mortimer said.

The actor went on to explain that the treatment she received from her co-stars only made matters worse. “Everybody was really embarrassed. It was very awkward. It was like, ‘Who is this girl who’s come — she’s just got one scene and she’s making such a meal of it,’ and nobody would talk to me. It was weird,” she said.

Regardless of on-set antics, 'Notting Hill' grossed a whopping $364 million at the box office and remains one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time.
