CELEBRITY John lennon

On December 8, 1980, the world was shaken with the news that iconic musician and political commentator John Lennon was shot dead outside of his New York City apartment.

The murderer at fault is Mark David Chapman who was just denied parole for the 10th time on Thursday (August 23). Chapman is being held at the Wende Correctional Facility in western New York where he is currently serving a sentence of 20-years-to-life in prison.

Chapman killed the former Beatles member in a "celebrity-seeking" type of vengeance. He admitted to considering murdering Johnny Carson or Elizabeth Taylor instead of Lennon, though the musician proved to be the most accessible.

During the parole hearing, Chapman explained his regret for killing Lennon. "I am sorry for causing that type of pain. I am sorry for being such an idiot and choosing the wrong way for glory," he said, according to Fox News.
