When was the last time you heard from the pop star? It's been a while since she announced she was taking a break from social media and wrote on Instagram, "Just remember-negative comments can hurt anybody's feelings." But there's been good reason for her silence. 

The 26-year-old singer was hospitalized twice in the last two weeks, and the second time she suffered a hysteric emotional breakdown, TMZ reports. 

While Gomez has seemed like a ray of positivity and light after receiving a kidney transplant from one of her best friends, things have been much more complicated.

In early September, she appeared to be in huge emotional distress as a result of a dangerously low white blood cell count. She was released after a couple of days, only to return soon after, as the mental toll from her physical condition persisted.

According to TMZ, Gomez wanted to leave the hospital, but doctors wouldn't let her, resulting in a "meltdown" where the star tried to rip the IVs out of her arm. Several sources called it a complete "emotional breakdown." 

The singer has been open about her struggles with depression over the years, and it can't help that she also recently became a target for hateful comments with both of her exes, Justin Bieber and The Weeknd, re-igniting relationships that they had begun to form before dating Gomez. 

Gomez is now reportedly at an East Coast psychiatric facility for Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which treats many mental health disorders, and which the singer is no stranger to. 

Though her major surgery last year appears to be having devastating effects, the singer also checked into rehab back in 2014, which many sources believe to be largely due to Justin Bieber.
