CELEBRITY Lawsuits

Rihanna's rocky relationship with her father might have just met its breaking point, as the singer has filed a lawsuit claiming that he exploited her name without her permission. All for, of course, money.

In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, RiRi claims that her father, Ronald Fenty, started a talent company in 2017 called Fenty Entertainment, which used his relationship to the world-famous artist without her consent. Rihanna had also trademarked "Fenty" to use for a number of ventures, including her wildly popular and lucrative Fenty Beauty line. She believes her father is trying to profit off the enormous reputation she worked hard to create by herself.

The documents say that Fenty Entertainment has been acting as Rihanna's agents, going as far as booking her for a $15 million tour in Latin America and two concerts in Los Angeles and Las Vegas for $400,000—all without her knowledge. Apparently her father says he ran the business offers by Rihanna's label, Roc Nation, but she argues that no one from her label was ever aware of what he was doing.

Ronald Fenty also tried to trademark the name “Fenty” for a line of boutique hotels in 2018, but his request was shot down by the US Patent & Trademark Office. Rihanna has reportedly sent several cease and desist letters ordering him to stop capitalizing off of her name and fame, but he's ignored her warnings, leaving her no choice but to take legal action.

The singer wants an injunction against her father, as well as unspecified damages.

Her father should know that if he wants a slice of fame, or the paycheck that goes with it, he has to take his daughter's advice and "work, work, work, work, work, work."
