The life of an athlete can be fast and furious. They typically start young and quickly prove themselves at a national, and even international, level. While sometimes this leads to fame and an impressive career, unfortunately not all athletes make it that far.

On July 24, days after his fight with Puerto Rico’s Subriel Matias, Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev passed away in a US hospital from sustained injuries. He was just 28 years old.

"Maxim was a talented fighter inside the ring and a loving husband and father outside the ropes,” boxing company Top Rank said in a statement.

Dadashev's trainer, Buddy McGirt, reportedly pleaded with the boxer during his fight with Matias to stop, as he had taken a lot of hits. When he finally left the ring, he had to be taken to a hospital where he underwent emergency brain surgery.
