Starring in a new Christian Dior campaign, A-list actress Jennifer Lawrence has come under fire for Mexican cultural appropriation. The commercial shows Lawrence in what resembles outfits inspired by Mexican horsewomen. Lawrence has been the face of Dior since 2012. Nevertheless, that didn't stop critics from pointing out that an actual Mexican woman should have been cast for the fashion campaign.

The Dior Cruise collection 2019 is inspired by the Escaramuzas and the Mexican female riders who perform in the charreada, a rodeo-like sport. 

Since the backlash, Dior removed the video featuring the American actress from their Instagram but still has some images paying homage to the Mexican women on their feed, shot by Mexican women photographers in Mexico. Check out the photographs below:
