LIFESTYLE Kellogg's cereal

For everyone who enjoys starting their morning with a big bowl of Corn Flakes, this story may have you switching to a new brand. The taste-less cereal has a weird backstory that has little to do with breakfast and a lot to do with masturbation.

John Harvey Kellogg invented Corn Flakes in the late 19th Century as a "healthy, ready-to-eat anti-masturbatory morning meal," according to Mental Floss.

Kellogg was actually extremely prudish when it came to all things sexual. The cereal-inventor and his wife never consummated their marriage and always slept in different bedrooms. While he denounced sex, masturbation was even worse, he deemed it an "abominable act."

The idea behind Corn Flakes was to create a cereal that was so tasteless that people who ate it would be completely devout of all self-pleasure.

Kellogg believed in this anti-masturbation theory so much that he wrote an entire book dedicated to all of the diseases this sexual act could cause. It was titled, 'Plain Facts for Old and Young: Embracing the Natural History and Hygiene of Organic Life.'
