LIFESTYLE Hunting

Before agriculture, we were hunters and gatherers. Early humans survived and evolved as a species by hunting, fishing, and picking up fruit, vegetables, nuts, and other foods from their environment.

But then farming happened. We started to have livestock and crops, and this completely changed the way we eat and our relationship with food.

The vast majority of people, especially those living in urban areas, doesn’t know how, or have the need, to kill animals for food. In most countries you can now find all sorts of meat readily available to take home, cook, and eat.

For this reason, we are nowhere near the death process of the animal. And while this is not true for everyone, many of us happily eat meat without questioning how the animal has lived or how it was killed. This unfamiliarity with the death of an animal however, might have something to do with way we perceive hunting nowadays.

No longer part of many cultures, hunting came to be loved by some and hated by others. Indeed it has become a controversial topic and one that polarizes opinions.

While some regard it as a sustainable and ethical way to kill and eat an animal, others see it as an unnecessary, and even cruel, practice. The debate is a never-ending one, so we gathered some important facts that will hopefully shed some light on the topic.

As with everything else in life, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. In this gallery you’ll find the most popular arguments for and against hunting.
