Anamorphic art makes the beach your canvas
Mount Maunganui's beach got quite the makeover

What do you normally do when you go to the beach? Do you read a book? Try and catch some rays? Swim in the ocean? Maybe you make a sandcastle! Well, for these sand artists, they had something a little more ambitious in mind.
Mount Maunganui, a suburb of Tauranga in New Zealand, got a makeover when a few artists decided to create some 3D art. Jamie Harkins, a local artist (and musician), was in charge of the pieces, though he had some help from other artists: Lucia Lupf, David Rendu, and Constanza Nightingale. He told the New Zealand Herald that he wanted to do something different with sand art, making it more intricate and three-dimensional.
All of the pictures seem like nonsense when you're standing next to or on top of them at the beach. However, they employ a technique called anamorphosis, which means that you need a specific vantage point to view the image.
But what about at the end of the day when the tide takes it away? Well, Harkins actually mentions this. He stated: "I kind of like the fact that it disappears at the end of the day when the tide comes in. It makes it impermanent."
